When the hunting isn't good in Portland Oregon...

After 3 and a half years of living in Portland Oregon and desperately trying to return to Montana I was finally able to move back. Although I was very excited, the timing was somewhat difficult. I became an Oregon resident while I was away, in order to hunt in Oregon. I greatly enjoyed my time learning the coastal range and spending time being bamboozled by Roosevelt Elk.
 
I spent my archery season in Oregon and returned to Montana just in time to see all of my friends and family ready to head out for Montana rifle season. Due to the prices of out of state tags I decided I had to sit this rifle season out as I regain my residency status for next season. As my brother, nephew, father and other friends all are spending time in the woods hunting, I am relegated to the sidelines as a pack mule, an extra noise maker, or someone who watches more than their share of college football. Painfully, I am not hunting this season in Montana.
 
This is why I was particularly disgusted to read the article I saw this morning in the Missoulian. I believe in due process and the justice system, but the claims of the article are that this buck was takenillegally on private proprty and that the animal was wasted. The fact that it was someone from Portland OR made it even worse to me. This is exactly the type of behavior that gives outdoorsman bad names. Although this site is dedicated to hunters and their "trophies", No Name Outdoors believes that trophies are animals that are taken in fair chase hunts, by the rules, regardless of size.
