After 3 and a half years of living in Portland Oregon and desperately trying to return to Montana I was finally able to move back. Although I was very excited, the timing was somewhat difficult.

I have tried to refrain from climbing atop a soap box to voice my opinions every time I get annoyed but this time I just can't help myself!

So within this country there exists Local, State, and Federal Laws. As I understand it a State Law would trump a Local Law and a Federal Law would trump both Local and State Laws. Now please take into account I am not a lawyer nor have I actively studied law but I have noticed a discrepency that has me confused if not a little mad.

In brief here it is:

Judge Donald Molloy has placed Gray Wolves back on the endangered list citing that a species cannot be on the list in one state but not in another. Wyoming wolves have remained on the list due to disagreements over management. Not sure what this means for Alaska nor am I sure when endangered status was determined by management plans. I do know this decision has surely fanned an already hot fire!

They say what goes around comes around and I am starting to believe it's true. As a youth I continually begged my parents to either take me fishing or allow me the freedom to go alone.

December, for some it’s all about holiday cheer,  for others maybe it’s the start of ski season, but for a few of us it’s all about trying to maintain a positive outlook. This is not because of the cold weather or extremely short days, it’s not due to the winding down of another long hard year of work.  It’s something only few will ever understand.

As I have tried to find that comfortable holster for my handgun and me, I have had to try and figure out the handgun’s barrel length. Although this may seem like a basic thing, as new a gun owner the first thing I learned is that the revolver and the semi-auto are measured differently.

As I've cruised through the trophy rooms and brag boards here at NNO, I've notice that we have what appears to be a very skilled group of outdoors folks without all the testosterone.

A submission from OD Ray.

The times change, our circumstances change, but the hunting experiences can be uniquely the same now as they were 30 years ago. This is a story about economic sustenance hunting at its best. I even had to bum a bullet from my neighbor J Weed, but he insisted I take six.

INTRODUCTION

I am married, mother of two boys, and a middle school teacher. I’m also a high school track coach and will be starting my 30th year in August.

In December of 2006 my husband and I were involved in a serious head on accident with a drunk driver. Although we survived I lost the movement in my left eye. This has affected some things, but it did not hurt my shooting eye. While recovering from the wreck I found myself needing to shoot a gun, but unable to shoot a rifle, yet. At that point I decided I wanted my own firearm. I wanted a pistol.

I liken shooting the pistol to shooting a free throw. There is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to consistently hit your target. Accomplishing this means practice, practice, practice. I truly believe that through practice your shot should get on and be consistent. A lot of being consistent has to do with your grip and then your aim. Learning where to hold the front sight and then doing it exactly the same every time. However, today lots of practice can become a problem because finding ammo to purchase is hard. This leads me to my next installment where I will address the benefit of having a good .22 or two to shoot and practice with.
